NPFL: Doma return to winning ways as Remo edge Pillars

Published on: 02 June 2024

After going 5 games without a win, Doma United recorded their first win since 3rd of April on Saturday as they defeated continental ticket hopeful Lobi Stars 1-0 at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe, Nigeriasoccernet.com writes.

Mohammed Usman's goal in the 27th minute of the first half was all the Savannah Tigers needed to intensify their bid for survival this season.

Started the league like a house on fire, Doma United who once led the NPFL table now found themselves in a precarious situation, this showing how competitive the NPFL could be on a good day, but with 4 games left to end their season and 3 points above the drop zone, Doma could maintain their premier league status at the end as odds still in their favor.

Elsewhere, league chaser, Remo Stars move a step closer towards their first ever NPFL title after scoring late to edge resilient Kano Pillars 2-1 in Ikenne.

After taking the lead as early as the 6th minute through Akinyele, Daniel Ogumodede boys surrendered their lead in the 48th minutes as Mustapha leveled things for the visitors.

With the game looking like it's destined for a draw, Nduka Junior snatched the 3 points late on for Remo Stars, scoring the winner in the 90+9 minutes.

The win put Remo Stars a point behind leaders Rangers International who will play their matchday 34 fixture against Sporting Lagos on Sunday.

Okereke Sunday (64') and Ogbonda (78') were the scorers as Bendel Insurance defeat Kastina United 2-0 in Benin on Saturday.

Matchday 34 fixtures continues this Sunday with some mouthwatering games to be played starting with coach Ilechukwu's return to Lagos as his Rangers seeks maximum points to continue their push for the league title.

Dead rubber Gombe United will host struggling Sunshine Stars at the Pantami Stadium Gombe as Bayelsa United slug it out with Plateau United.

Enyimba will hope they can get a win over Rivers United as they press on for their title defense while Kwara United visit Niger Tornadoes.

A return to the continent after decades remain achievable this season for Shooting Stars but first will have to take Abia Warriors out of their way this Sunday at the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba Ibadan.

Akwa United vs Heartland complete the fixtures for the round, as the two survival chasers clash at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo.
