Benue State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Barrister Teryima Nguher, on Thursday inspected the playing turf and other facilities at the Aper Aku stadium Makurdi with a pledge to report his findings to Governor Samuel Ortom, for immediate action.

The arena which is the home ground of Nigeria Professional Football League side (NPFL), Lobi Stars, is one of the stadia that are under temporary ban by the league organisers for falling short on the basic requirements.

It will be recalled that after officials from the then LMC inspected the stadium, they demanded upgrading of the playing turf, dressing rooms, scoreboard, VIP lounge and floodlight.

Lobi Stars would be forced to play their home matches away from home, if they fail to uplift the facilities.

However, the state Commissioner of sports was at the stadium yesterday to ascertain the state of the facilities for the necessary action.

Nguher who was conducted round the stadium by Lobi Stars vice-chairman, Dominic Iorfa, said “Afew days ago, I received a letter from the league authorities notifying me of the ban on Aper Aku stadium so I am here to see things for myself.

“I will immediately convey my findings to my principal for urgent action. His Excellency’s commitment to sports is not in doubt so I am sure he will do the needful,” he assured.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner also seized the opportunity to watch Lobi Stars training session and advise the players to be of good behaviour on and off the field of play.
