NPFL: 5-star Pillars deem Sunshine Stars

Kano Pillars recorded a big win against Sunshine Stars in the match day 21 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League on Sunday at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The Sai Masu Gida side whitewash the Akure Gunners 5-1 to return to third position in the league standings.

Auwalu Ali Malam started the rout as he scored in the 5th minute after a fine team build up which saw him put the ball behind the net from close range.

The visitors had a chance to restore parity when Ibrahim Yusuf failed to compose himself as he missed a sitter few minutes later.

Rabiu Ali latched on from close range to a cross from the right side of the pitch to double Pillars lead in the 21st minute.

The two sides later on had their fair share of chances with Sunshine Stars defense blocking 3 successive shots at goal deny Pillars while goalkeeper Idrissu made a save at the other end as the score remained 2-0 at halftime.

The hosts continued with the momentum of the first 45 as Ibrahim Mustapha Yuga extended Pillars lead 3 minutes after the restart with a fine run from the left hand corner to put curl the ball into the net.

Yuga increased the lead to 4-0 after converting Rabiu Ali's corner kick in the 52nd minute with a powerful header which was punched in by goalkeeper Ishola Abdullateef.

Mustapha Umar scored Pillars 5th 3 minutes later from Yuga's close range pass.

In the 81st minute, Sunshine Stars pulled one back from a penalty by Promise Awosanmi to end the score 5-1.

The loss leaves Kennedy Boboye's boys in the relegation zone, 17th position with 23 points.
