Nigeria Professional Football League champions Enyimba boosted their chances of making a return to the continent by inflicting a 2-1 defeat on Wikki Tourists in their rescheduled matchday 31 fixture at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt on Wednesday, while denting their opponents' hopes of winning the title.

The visitors shocked their hosts when they took the lead three minutes before the break through league top scorer Godwin Obaje.

It was Obaje's 18th goal of the campaign and he is now in pole position to win the top scorer's honour.

Enyimba rallied back almost immediately and Nzube Anaezemba equalised for them on the dot of half time.

The Peoples Elephant went into the lead for the first time in the game through Anaezemba who scored his second of the game five minutes after the restart.

Despite the defeat, Wikki remain in the third position with 51 points, three adrift of leaders Enugu Rangers, while Enyimba who now have 49 points jumped from eighth to sixth position.

At the Umuahia Township Stadium, Abia Warriors and FC IfeanyiUbah battled to a 1-1 draw in their matchday 34  tie.

Ndifreke Effiong scored the relegation-threatened home side's goal, while Ghanaian Kojo Baah equalised for the visiting FC IfeanyiUbah. The home side moved from 18th position to 17th in the table but are fast losing their fight to escape the drop, while the visitors moved to fourth place.
