Following groin injury to Brennan Johnson at the weekend, Nottingham Forest is eager to have Taiwo Awoniyi back in the team.nigeriasoccernet reveals
Awoniyi is nearing a return as the striker has not featured for the Reds since scoring the winner in a 1-0 win over Southampton in January.
Forests have an injury list that is far from ideal. Several players are nursing problems at the moment and on Saturday, Johnson became the latest to be added to the list.
The 21-year-old came off straight away after signalling to the bench that he had done something to his groin. Steve Cooper confirmed afterwards that he will need a scan.
Forest will have everything crossed that it’s not too serious. The Reds desperately need their nine-goal star and the club’s Premier League existence could depend on his injury problem.
Awoniyi’s return could therefore offer a timely boost. He was just starting to adapt to life in the Premier League and his goal against Southampton was his fifth for the Reds.
The 23-year-old was starting to be a real menace playing as a left-sided forward. His groin injury came at an awful time for the Reds and they desperately need him back quickly.
Awoniyi was brilliant for Union Berlin last season. He was called ‘excellent’ by a Bundesliga pundit during the campaign and Forest could dearly do with him back as quickly as possible.
