Brereton has been in superb form this season, scoring 15 goals in 20 game for Forest's under 23 side, a remarkable achievement considering its only his first year at this competitive age level.

Nottingham Forest's striking options are extensive, with the likes of Britt Assombalonga, Nicklas Bendtner and Apostolos Vellios available, but some fans have already called for Brereton to be given some first team action.

Pleased to announce that Ben Brereton has signed a new contract with #NFFC

It is thought that a fee of around £1m would be needed to prise the player away from the City Ground, with Brereton signing a new contract with the Sky Bet Championship side on New Year's Eve.

Liverpool are active when it comes to acquiring talent from around the country so it does not come as a surprise to read about an in-form striker being linked with a move to Mersyeside, whether it will materialise though is another matter.
