NNL: We Maintain The Bond Despite Intricacies Seye Ajayi Hapless Following Playoff Pass Over
It's a sort of last day heartbreak for Osun Utd for missing out on the promotion playoff ticket by a whisker. Omoluabi Giants promoted back to second tier league following a masterclass display while campaigning in the Nationwide League One last season.
With young and energetic squad presented for 2023/2024 Nigeria National League season, coupled with the renewed commitments from state government, United looked primed to brake the jinx owing to instant results garnered in opening weeks of the season.
However, injuries to key players, inefficacy in execution zone, distractions and fatigue are somewhat huge factors attributed to the leap expected to achieve by the team says the head coach.
"We started very well with much anticipations, the squad was set up to beat any team, we were fired up for results home and away and my boys played to instructions on so many occasions. We took it one after the other and at some point we were on top of the log. The group is tough and dicey, though we lost couples of points at home which we regret deeply."
'Believe And Achieve' nearly hit the target but intricacies surrounding the landscape could be discouraging. United amassed 29 points at home with another six points away, five points short of second spot.
"We dealt with a lot of distractions, fatigue set in at a time owing to long miles we must cover before the match day. At a time when we needed the support of our supporters, we were taken away from home which psychologically and emotionally haunted us.
"We have identified areas where we need improvements, we will relieve some players not because they are not good but we want to increase the standard. We are the least conceded side in the league, we need to beef up with young and experienced players that can deliver upfront. So many things will be sorted before resumption. For what we have been able to do this term, hopefully, next season will be greater." Seye Ajayi stated.
Meanwhile, while reflecting soberly, Mojeed Abimbola the team captain apologized for the heartbreaking moments, he assured the teeming fans of better outing next time. The team proceeds on end of the season break from now and are expected to regroup after Salah celebrations.
