Nmecha: Chelsea Were Vulnerable Because of Their Youth

Published on: 11 February 2026

Leeds United forward Lukas Nmecha has suggested that Chelsea’s youthful squad made them susceptible during their dramatic comeback draw, as both sides shared the spoils in an entertaining contest.

Chelsea looked firmly in control after racing into a 2-0 lead. Cole Palmer first set up Joao Pedro for his sixth goal under manager Liam Rosenior, before Pedro earned a penalty which Palmer calmly converted.

However, the momentum shifted when Leeds were awarded a spot-kick after Moises Caicedo fouled Jayden Bogle. Nmecha stepped up to convert, reducing the deficit. Moments later, a defensive mix-up at the back allowed Noah Okafor to tap in the equaliser, completing a remarkable turnaround.

Reflecting on the comeback, Nmecha acknowledged Chelsea’s quality but insisted Leeds were able to exploit certain weaknesses.

“They’re really good in midfield, overloading us and finding pockets. We tried to press them, but they found good solutions,” Nmecha told TNT Sports.

“We tried to choke them out, and it worked. A point here is very respectable. They’re very talented, but they’re still a young group. We tried to use the momentum and just smother them.”

The result represents a valuable point for Leeds, who now turn their attention to an FA Cup clash against Hull City.

For Chelsea, the immediate task is a league encounter against 19th-placed Burnley. However, the fixture list soon becomes far more demanding, with Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester Cit,y and Newcastle all awaiting the Blues in a challenging run of six matches.
