Nigerian quartet set for CAF's continental club competitions financial boost

Published on: 16 August 2024

African football governing body CAF have announced a significant financial boost for participating clubs in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederations Cup. This initiative, led by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, aims to promote football development across Africa, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

A key highlight of this announcement is the provision of USD 50,000 to clubs participating in the preliminary stages of these prestigious competitions. This marks a departure from previous years when teams needed to reach the group stages to be eligible for financial rewards.

The first preliminary round of both competitions is set to begin today, August 16, with return legs scheduled for August 23-25. The second preliminary round will take place in September, with group stage places up for grabs.

Nigerian clubs Enugu Rangers, Remo Stars SC, El-Kanemi Warriors, and Enyimba FC are among the beneficiaries of this financial boost, having qualified for the 2024/25 continental competitions.

This development has been widely praised as a positive step towards enhancing African club football and providing greater support to participating teams.
