Nigerian Players Abroad Taye Taiwo,Onobi Start

  Catch up on the performances of players of Nigerian descent abroad on Wednesday, June 15.

We start off in Finland. HJK Helsinki thrashed KuPS 4-1 in the Cup, with five Nigerian players getting game time.

Taye Taiwo (HJK), Gbolahan Salami, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Paul Onobi and Aliyu Abubakar ( KuPS) made the starting line-up of their respective teams.

Super Eagles striker Salami scored a consolation goal for KuPS in the 79th minute. Abubakar subbed out just before the start of the second half while Taiwo was replaced in the 76th minute.

HJK Helsinki pair Nnamdi Oduamadi and Vincent Onovo did not make the 18-man squad for the Cup game.

At the Myyrmäen jalkapallostadion (Vantaa), Abonima Izuegbu played the entirety of Seinaejoen JK’s 3-1 win over PK-35 Vantaa.

In a post-season friendly staged at Stadion Unterpremstätten, Austrian club Sturm Graz beat Slovenians NK Celje 2-0, with Bright Edomwonyi finding the net in the 45th minute. The Nigerian striker played only the first half.

Former Nigeria international Peter Utaka worked a ninety-minute shift in attack in Sanfrecce Hiroshima’s 1-1 draw with FC Tokyo in the J League.

Still in Asia, Obafemi Martins started and completed Shanghai Shenhu’s 2-2 draw at Hebei CFFC in the Chinese Super League. 0
