Heartland FC have confirmed the tragic death of their head coach, Christian Obi, following a devastating road accident on Friday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The team's bus was involved in a crash while en route to Abakaliki for the TICO/SELECT Ifeanyi Ekwueme pre-season tournament.
Obi, who was initially rescued unconscious with a leg injury, but despite the best efforts of the medical personnel to revive Obi, the coach gave up the ghost.
The club in a long trend on social media (X) revealed his remains have been taken to the Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH) morgue in Owerri.
This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through Nigerian football, with tributes pouring in for the late coach.
