Nigerian-Born Defender Adarabioyo Extends Man City Contract

Published on: 20 June 2017

Nigerian-born England U-19 defender, Tosin Adarabioyo, has renewed his contract with English Premier League giants Manchester City.

This was announced on Manchester City's official website on Tuesday.

Adarabioyo, 19, put pen-to-paper on a deal that will see him stay with the Citizens until 2021.

A statement on City's website reads: "Manchester City are delighted to announce that Tosin Adarabioyo has extended his contract with the club.

"The young centre-back has penned a new deal which keeps him at City until 2021.

"Manchester-born Adarabioyo has been a regular in Simon Davies’ Elite Development Squad during the 2016/17 season, featuring fifteen times in the Premier League 2 and six times in the UEFA Youth League.

"The centre-back has appeared four times for City’s first team with his debut coming in the FA Cup clash at Stamford Bridge in the 2015/16 campaign, earning City’s man-of-the-match award.

"The 19-year-old’s next appearance came in the 1-0 victory in the second leg of the Champions League qualifier against Romanian side Steaua Bucharest last August.

"Adarabioyo, who wears the squad number 53, was then one of several younger members of the squad to star in the EFL Cup victory over Swansea City in September, before going on to play the full match as City ended their Champions League group stage with a 1-1 draw against Celtic in December.

"Since joining the squad on their pre-season tour of China, Adarabioyo has also been a regular part of Pep Guardiola’s first team training sessions after being promoted to the senior squad by the new manager.

"A tall defender capable of reading the game quickly, Adarabioyo signed his first professional contract with the club when he turned 17 in 2014 – three years after making his U18s debut at the tender age of 14.

"Excellent on the ball, the defender possesses good positional awareness and leadership skills – as demonstrated by his track record of captaining City’s U18s squad in 2014/15 before moving up to the EDS for the 2015/16 campaign.

"All at Manchester City would like to congratulate Tosin on his new contract and we look forward to monitoring his progress!"

Adarabioyo qualifies to play for Nigeria as he has never played for the English senior national team in a competitive game.
