Nigeria Striker Obafemi Martins Visit team-mate Demba Ba After his horrific leg break

Obafemi Martins popped in to visit team-mate Demba Ba in hospital following his horrific leg break in the Shanghai derby on Sunday.

The former Chelsea and West Ham striker's lower leg almost bent double in the gruesome injury just two days ago, but the Senegalese star was able to smile as he laid up in hospital in China.

That grin was a long way away on Sunday though, as new pictures revealed the look of horror on the 31-year-old's face while he was treated on the pitch.

Ba, who has scored an impressive 17 goals in 21 games for Shenhua in 2016 and is the top scorer in the Chinese Super League, suffered his injury in the 64th minute of his side's 2-1 victory.

SIPG captain Sun Xiang made a clumsy challenge on the 31-year-old and it was immediately apparent Ba's left leg was broken

Shenhua went on to beat the Red Eagles 2-1 with late goals from Yunding Cao and former Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin but Ba's condition will be of serious concern to the club.

Shenhua coach Gregorio Manzano told local media that Ba, who also played for Newcastle, would be out for at least seven months.

'If I can choose, I'd rather lose the match than lose Demba Ba,' Manzano was quoted as saying by the Shanghai Daily newspaper.

'Football is unfair sometimes to let such a terrible thing happen to such a good man... That was the kind of terrible foul that could end a player's career.'

SIPG's coach, the former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, expressed sympathy, according to the Shanghai Daily, saying: 'It was a bad injury. I'm very sorry for Ba.'
