The CAF VAR Academy which elite referees will attend between September and October across CAF’s 54 member associations as the first step of introducing VAR across the continent begins, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Following the successful hosting of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, where the quality of officiating was widely praised, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to launch a groundbreaking VAR Academy.

This academy will provide intensive training to elite referees from across the continent, equipping them with the skills necessary to officiate at international competitions and national championships using Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology.

The aim is to ensure that Africa continues producing world-class referees, building on the impressive performances in recent tournaments.

Raul Chipenda, CAF Technical development director, emphasized the academy's significance as a practical step towards enhancing the standard of match officiating in Africa. By empowering African referees with VAR expertise, CAF seeks to position them on par with their counterparts around the globe.
