Niger could replace Togo as 2020 WAFU U20 championship host

Niger is reportedly ready to host the 2020 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) U20 football competition after Togo withdrawn from hosting the tournament.

Togo confirmed they are no longer interested in staging the competition on Wednesday, sighting the ongoing coronavirus pandemic as the reason.

The competition was scheduled to kick off on November 18 and the organizers have communicated that the date remain unchanged.

Meanwhile, despite the potential change of venue, the Flying Eagles have continued their preparation for the championship and were involved in an exhibition game on Thursday.
