Yira Sor injury rules him out for six weeks after Amedspor victory

Yira Sor is expected to miss about six weeks after suffering a hamstring injury during Amedspor’s 2-1 win over Trabzonspor on Monday.

The Nigerian winger was injured at the Seyrantepe Spor Kompleksi Stadyumu after scoring Amedspor’s equaliser in first-half stoppage time. Sor’s goal cancelled out Mohamed Salah’s opener for Trabzonspor and helped his side go into the interval level.

However, the 26-year-old could not continue after half-time. He was replaced by compatriot Gift Orban four minutes into the second half.

Orban later completed Amedspor’s comeback by scoring the winning goal in the 90th minute.

Amedspor confirmed the extent of Sor’s injury after he underwent medical examinations. The club said MRI scans had identified damage to the hamstring muscle in his left thigh.

“MRI scans of Yira Sor revealed an approximately 11-centimeter-long muscle injury in his left biceps femoris (hamstring). Treatment and rehabilitation are expected to last approximately six weeks,” the club stated on its official website.

The injury is a setback for Sor after he joined Besnik Hasi’s side from Belgian Pro League club KRC Genk last month.

He has scored once in three league appearances for the Turkish Super Lig club this season.

Sor’s latest appearance ended early despite his goal, with Amedspor ultimately securing all three points through Orban’s late strike. The victory was strengthened by the two Nigerian forwards’ contributions, although Sor will now begin a rehabilitation programme expected to keep him out for approximately six weeks.

The winger arrived at Amedspor from KRC Genk before making an immediate impact in the Turkish Super Lig. His equaliser against Trabzonspor was his first league goal for the club and came in only his third league appearance of the campaign.

Amedspor’s medical update means Sor is set for a period on the sidelines while the injury to his left biceps femoris is treated and rehabilitated. The club has not suggested a shorter recovery period than the approximately six weeks outlined after the MRI scans.

The result against Trabzonspor was therefore overshadowed by the loss of Sor, even though Orban’s 90th-minute goal ensured Amedspor secured a 2-1 victory.
