OGC Nice have made Ghana defender Alidu Seidu their main target as they look to strengthen their defence following the serious left-knee injury suffered by Antoine Mendy.
According to L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 club have identified the 26-year-old Stade Rennais player as the preferred solution. However, Nice must first receive approval from their owner, Ineos, before formally opening negotiations with Stade Rennais.
Seidu has made 106 appearances in France’s top flight since beginning his professional career. He joined Stade Rennais in January 2024 after several seasons with Clermont Foot.
The defender can operate in a back three and is also able to cover at right-back, making him a suitable option for Nice’s current requirements.
Seidu is under contract with Stade Rennais until June 2029, but he is reportedly no longer part of the club’s plans. Rennes would be willing to let him leave, although only on loan with an option to buy.
The player’s estimated market value is €6m, according to Transfermarkt. Ouest-France has also reported that discussions have begun between Nice and the Ghana international, who could be signed as a medical replacement for the injured Mendy.
