The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has approved an extension of the tenures for the current boards of the NPFL, NNL, and NLO.
This extension aligns the league boards’ lifespan with that of the current NFF administration led by Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), which ends on 29 September 2026.
By this move, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye (NPFL), Chief George Aluo (NNL), and HE Silas Ali Agara (NLO) will remain in office until 29 September 2026.
The original mandate of these boards began on 1 July 2023 and was due to expire on 30 June 2025.
The NFF Executive Committee praised their “body of work” over the past two years and expressed confidence in their leadership.
They urged the league administrators to “commit even more efforts to delivering better-packaged and more attractive leagues.”
The goal, according to the NFF, is to ensure domestic leagues become a source of pride for both local and continental football communities.
The committee also emphasized the need for the boards to “progressively introspect and innovate for the good of the game.”
While decisions were made on the men’s leagues, the NFF deferred judgment on the Nigeria Women's Football League board.
The leadership of the NWFL, currently under Ms. Nkechi Nneka Obi, will be decided “at a later date.”
This postponement leaves the fate of the women’s league board pending further deliberations.
The extensions reflect the NFF's desire for continuity and stability across its football league structure.
Stakeholders are now looking to these boards to deliver reforms and raise the profile of Nigeria’s football leagues.
With over a year already served, the boards now have until 2026 to leave a lasting legacy.
All eyes will be on the NPFL, NNL, and NLO as they embark on this extended mandate.
