Incoming assistant manager Chris Powell is "honoured" of being part of Nigel Pearson's new-look backroom staff and revealed that he couldn't turn down the prospect of a return to the iPro Stadium.

In an interview with  Rams Player HD, the former Rams defender exclaimed that the influence of Nigel Pearson and his love for the club were the two main reasons for his "special" return as Pearson's new assistant.

Powell told the site that: "My history here is something that I am proud of.

"I played in the Premiership here. Jim (Smith) was a brilliant Manager for me, he really handled that group really well.

"For me to come back in this capacity is a really special moment. I spoke to Nigel and when he asked me about coming back there was no hesitation."?

Powell added: "I know I have been a manager, and I am sure I will be again at some point in the future, but there are two reasons why I have come here.

"One of them is Nigel and the other is Derby County. I'm really, really pleased and honoured to be part of the management staff now here at the Rams."?
