Newcastle Supporters Divided With Rumours of Possible Steven Gerrard and Rafa Benitez Reunion

LA Galaxy star Steven Gerrard has been linked with a sensational return to English football and a potential reunion with former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United.

"?

But the intense speculation linking the 36-year-old former England international with the Magpies has not been universally welcomed by their supporters, with some questioning both his relationship with Benitez and his ability.

As reported by the Chronicle Live, the Merseyside-born star is keen to prolong his playing career as his contract in LA set to expire. A number of teams have been linked with a move for Gerrard alongside Newcastle, but the Tyneside club remain hot favourites.

Benitez's men are in remarkable form at the top of the Championship table and some supporters feel the former England captain joining in January would be a boost for everyone associated with the club.

Anybody fancy Gerrard for rest of the season? Could be a shout like Rafa effect #NUFC

I'd happily take Steven Gerrard at #NUFC. Happily.

Would be like a kid at Christmas if Newcastle sign Stevie G! #NUFC

However, some fans are unsure of the possible move, and have questioned whether having the 36-year-old at the club would be beneficial.

A reunion with Benitez had been highlighted, with supporters pointing to their frosty relationship during their time together at Anfield.

If Gerrard to #nufc rumour is based on Rafa, worth remembering their relationship isn't that great. He said they'd not spoken for years.

Kenny Dalglish, who managed the Magpies for just one season in 1997/98, signed a number of former Liverpool stars, including the likes of John Barnes and Ian Rush, but they failed to reach their former heights.

And Newcastle fans have warned Benitez over potentially repeating that mistake by signing his former captain.
