Newcastle striker Pappiss Cisse has rejected a call up from Senegal for this month’s friendly match against Ghana over injury concerns.
The 29-year-old has just had a screw removed from his knee and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.
New Senegal coach Aliou Cisse looks to revive the partnership between Demba Ba and Cisse starting with the friendly against Ghana on March 28 in France.
But the Newcastle striker claims he is not fit enough to join his national team for this month’s friendlies.
"Papiss is beginning to get fit but he will not be present in the upcoming friendlies,” a source close to the player is quoted as saying.s
“Newcastle needed him and he has only played to 70 per cent of his potential. Now he will use his suspension to upgrade and return to top form for next season.”
