Newcastle United have intensified their interest in David Otorbi after sending two scouts to watch the Valencia winger during the 2-2 draw with Racing Santander, according to Marca.
The club’s recruitment team were impressed by the 18-year-old’s impact after he came on at El Sardinero. Operating on the right, the Spanish-Nigerian forward made an immediate impression and quickly became an attacking threat.
Otorbi brought Valencia level by cutting inside before finishing a pass from Javi Guerra. The goal was his first of the season in Liga, and he continued to trouble the Racing Santander defence until the final moments of the match.
Newcastle’s representatives were also encouraged by the teenager’s ability to compete in physical duels, as well as his technical qualities.
The Premier League club are looking to strengthen during the winter transfer window after a difficult campaign in the championship and have turned their attention to Spain.
Otorbi extended his contract with Los Che in April and is now tied to Valencia until June 2028. He is regarded as one of the most promising players to have emerged from the club’s academy.
His current estimated value on Transfermarkt is €3.5m.
Valencia’s next league fixture will be against Athletic Bilbao in the ninth round of the Spanish championship.
