New Mexico United stuns Dallas

Published on: 20 June 2019

New Mexico United added another MLS victim to their run in the US Open Cup on Wednesday with a 2-1 defeat of FC Dallas.

New Mexico had previously beaten the Colorado Rapids in the Fourth Round.

Kevaughn Frater and Sam Hamilton were on target for the visitors to Westcott Field to cancel out a Brandon Servania opener for FC Dallas.

The win booked at Quarterfinal match-up for New Mexico with Minnesota United who knocked out the defending holders, the Houston Dynamo, on Tuesday.

New Mexico weren't the only USL team to make it through to the Quarterfinals with Saint Louis FC ousting FC Cincinnati to book a match up with Atlanta United.

Sam Fink scored deep into injury time at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton.

In addition to New Mexico and Saint Louis pulling upsets there were three other matches in the Fifth Round.

New York City FC took care of DC United, Orlando City edged the New England Revolution and the Portland Timbers had little trouble with the LA Galaxy.

Portland has now knocked out both the Galaxy and the Seattle Sounders and have looked the best side remaining in the competition.

Wednesday's results mean that Orlando and New York City will meet in the Quarter-final leaving the Timbers to await their opponent.

That will be decided on Thursday evening when LAFC takes on the San Jose Earthquakes at the Banc of California Stadium. San Jose will be looking to avenge a 5-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

The Earthquakes are 15/2 to win that clash, with LA 1/4 and the draw priced at 5/1.
