New Boss Jaap Stam Insists His Reading Side Will Be Entertaining

Published on: 18 June 2016

New Reading manager Jaap Stam has revealed that his side will attack teams in the Championship next season, as reported by "?GetReading.

Following Stam's successful spell at Manchester United in his playing days, the Dutch defender is mostly remembered for his tough tackling and impressive defensive displays.

But the 43-year-old has promised fans that his no nonsense defending will not effect Reading's style of play.

"I am a defender but I like to attack as well,"? he said.

"I'm brought up in the Dutch way of playing. Of course you have to think about defence because you don't want to attack all the time and concede a lot of goals.

"But attractive football is one of my philosophies."?

Stam believes communication between him and his new players will be key for the season ahead.

"Everyone will look at me, probably you guys in the media as well, and think he's a bit too serious, a bit grumpy,"? said Stam.

"But people who know me know I am quite friendly.

"I think as a manager you need to know how to talk to players in a certain situation. Sometimes you need to be friendly, sometimes you need to be hard as well because you expect certain things.

"If the players don't do it, then of course you have to treat them in a certain way. It's their job as well. They need to work for it," Stam said.
