After few months of uncertainty over the choice of new Super Eagles technical adviser, the Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday announced the appointment of 64- year old German coach Gernot Rohr as the substantive replacement for Sunday Oliseh.
1. Successful Reign As Bordeaux Manager
Gernot Rohr most successful stint as a football manager was with French side Girondins Bordeaux. Well respected during his playing days at the club, Rohr led Bordeaux to the final of the UEFA Cup in 1996 against Bayern Munich where they lost over two legs, 0-2 away and 1-3 at home. Bordeaux's run included a famous 3-0 win over AC Milan in the quarter-finals.
2. Respite From Coach: Eintracht Frankfurt Sporting Director
The German gaffer took a break from the dugout after his stint with Bordeaux and worked as sporting director with Bundesliga side, Eintracht Frankfurt from October 1998 until April 1999.
3. Fired By Etoile du Sahel After One Season
His first sojourn into African football was with Tunisian side Etoile Sportive du Sahel, but he lasted only one season with the club as he was sacked by the Sousse- based outfit after just one season during which the only managed a third place finish in the table, missing out on a CAF Champions League place.
4. December 2009: Sacked As FC Nantes Coac
Rohr suffered the same fate with French Ligue 2 side FC Nantes in his next job but this time around, Rohr didn't lasted too long on the seat.After signing a two-year deal with the club on June 9, 2009, he was sacked in December of the same year following a run of poor results and was replaced by Jean Marc- Furlan.
5. AFCON Quarter-final Feat As Gabon Coach
He replaced countryman Alain Giresse as manager of the Gabonese national team in 2010 and led the Panthers to a quarter-final place finish at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations which Gabon co-hosted with Equatorial Guinea.
6. October 2014: Resigned As Niger Coach After Two Years
Rohr managed the Niger national team for two years. He was appointed in September 2012 and resigned in October 2014.
7. Sacked As Burkina Faso Coach After One Year
The 63- year old last job was with the Burkina Faso national team where he was sacked in December 22, 2015.
