The German football team landed in Frankfurt on Thursday after a 14-hour journey following an unscheduled landing in Edinburgh on their way back from a World Cup qualifier in Iceland.

Germany won 4-0 in Reykjavik on Wednesday, moving to the top of their qualification group by four points.

However, several members of the team had an adventure on the way home as their jet suffered a mechanical fault and had to reroute to Edinburgh Airport, causing a significant delay.

The team arrived at 3:30 p.m. local time after leaving Iceland's capital shortly after midnight on Thursday morning.

The unscheduled halt on the trip from Iceland, according to a spokesperson for Lithuanian charter carrier KlasJet, was caused by a possible faulty power generator aboard the plane.

The plane was examined after landing in Scotland, but the players had to wait a long time before a new plane went to Edinburgh to bring them home.
