Nagelsmann eyes up title tilt

Julian Nagelsmann accepts that he will have to try and help new club RB Leipzig challenge for the Bundesliga title next season to be viewed as a success.

The 31-year-old coach has spent the last three and a half years in charge of Hoffenheim, guiding them to fourth, third and ninth-place finishes in the Bundesliga in his three full seasons in charge.

Of course we want to go into the season with ambition and to win titles.

However, he now moves on to Leipzig, with Die Roten having ended up in second, sixth and third in their last three league campaigns.

And, as he prepares to take over from Ralf Rangnick - who also led Leipzig to the final of the DFB-Pokal this season - Nagelsmann is well aware of what will be expected from him and his players next term.

He told Bild: "That's why I signed, because I think it's a good team that's capable of development.

"He (Rangnick) can't finish third this year and then say 'with Julian, it's enough for us to finish sixth'. I think it's good that he trusts me and us to be successful.

"Whether we'll be champions or not next year, I don't know. It depends on a huge number of things, but of course we want to go into the season with ambition and to win titles."

Bayern Munich have been crowned champions of Germany in each of the last seven seasons, with Borussia Dortmund have ended as runners-up in the campaign just ended.

Meanwhile, Germany can be backed at 7/1 to triumph at Euro 2020, with Spain priced at 11/2 and Belgium 7/1.
