Mutiu Adepoju Prefers Local Coach

Mutiu Adepoju, former Super Eagles star, believes the decision of who coaches the Super Eagles is the prerogative of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

But he would prefer the NFF hiring anybody who will put the interest of Nigeria first. He said that even though he prefers an indigenous coach for the Super Eagles, the prerogative to hire any manager lies with the NFF.

“There is nothing wrong in any coach managing the national team. The bottom line is the person’s passion to develop the game in the country and that is what NFF should be looking out for,” he said. He said that he would be against going after an expatriate manager that would come with the intent to use the national team as an avenue to repatriate undeserved fund into his country.

“We should be careful in this regard; some of these so-called foreign managers do not worth it. “All they are interested is how much they will make and take back to their country without any plan to develop and reposition the national team.

“If we must go for a foreign coach, it must be a very tested one, who has the passion to write his name in the annals of Nigerian football history, but then, we have good Nigerian coaches, who can do the job. NFF should consider the development of football in Nigeria before appointing anyone to take over the national team,” Adepoju cautioned.
