Former Nigeria national football team captain Ahmed Musa scored the decisive goal as Kano Pillars secured a narrow 1–0 victory over local rivals Barau FC in their Nigeria Premier Football League clash at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Musa found the breakthrough three minutes before the hour mark, converting a key chance to hand the home side all three points in a tightly contested encounter.

The result lifts Kano Pillars to 15th place in the NPFL standings with 35 points from 29 matches, providing a timely boost as the club looks to move further away from the lower half of the table.

League leaders Rivers United strengthened their grip at the top with a 3–1 victory over Bendel Insurance at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

After a goalless first half, Rivers United dominated the second period with goals from Chijioke Mbaoma, Wisdom Samuel, and Samson Obi sealing the win. The Port Harcourt side now has 52 points from 27 matches.

Elsewhere, defending champions Remo Stars suffered a heavy 4–1 defeat against Rangers International in Enugu. Kenneth Igboke scored twice for Rangers, while Chidozie Iwundu and Wisdom Ebirim added further goals. Remo Stars’ consolation came through Franck Kingue.
