Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has spoken about his strained relationship with Roma’s leadership following the club’s defeat by Sevilla in the 2023 Europa League final.
Mourinho believed Roma should have been awarded a penalty after an opposing player handled the ball. Following the match, the Portuguese manager confronted referee Anthony Taylor.
Taylor was later attacked and intimidated by Roma supporters at Budapest Airport.
Mourinho said he accepted responsibility for what happened in the tunnel involving the referee, but denied responsibility for the events at the airport. He added that the dispute had affected his relationship with Roma’s leadership.
Several months after leaving Roma, Mourinho was appointed manager of Fenerbahce.
