Morocco’s six-city shortlist faces fresh 2030 World Cup checks

FIFA will carry out a new round of inspection visits in Morocco, Spain and Portugal in November and December as preparations continue for the 2030 World Cup.

Six Moroccan cities are involved in the latest stage of the selection process: Agadir, Casablanca, Fes, Marrakech, Rabat and Tanger.

The visits will allow FIFA to assess the condition of the proposed infrastructure and review the progress made by the host countries as they prepare to stage the tournament.

According to a statement published on FIFA’s official website, a delegation made up of representatives from several functional areas will travel to the candidate cities and inspect the stadiums included in their proposals.

The delegation will examine the sporting facilities, operational plans and wider infrastructure required to host an event of this scale. The inspections form part of FIFA’s assessment of whether the proposed sites can meet the demands of the competition.

FIFA officials are also expected to meet local, regional and national authorities during the visits. Discussions will include stadium operators, transport and mobility representatives, accommodation providers and other partners involved in the project.

Those meetings will enable FIFA to compare the details set out in the bids with conditions on the ground. They will also allow the organisation to measure progress and identify any changes that may be needed before the plans meet its hosting requirements.

The final choice of cities and stadiums has not yet been made. Morocco, Spain and Portugal have already identified their candidate cities, but the allocation of matches between the various venues remains undecided.

The number of games assigned to each city, along with the significance of those fixtures within the tournament schedule, will depend on FIFA’s final decisions.
