Morocco appeal to CAS over Nations Cup ban

Published on: 17 February 2015

Morocco have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over their ban from the next two African Nations Cup tournaments, the Swiss-based tribunal said on Tuesday.

Morocco, originally due to stage this year's Nations Cup, were banned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after asking to postpone the tournament due to worries over the Ebola virus.

CAF refused, moving the tournament to Equatorial Guinea and fining the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) $1 million and ordering it to pay 8 million euros ($9.1 million) in damages to CAF and its partners.

"In its appeal to the CAS, the FRMF requests the annulment of the challenged decisions and that a final award be issued by the end of March 2015," CAS said in a statement.

"An arbitration procedure has been opened and is being conducted according to the Code of Sports."

I think caf have every right to ban Morocco from the next two Africa cups of nations , I think what Morocco did is unacceptable in any way by refusing to hosting 2015 afcon. Morocco should be ashamed for their country by not hosting the afcon. .equatorial guinea to host the tournament for less then 2 month by managing to putting good systems in place to control ebola . Why didn't Morocco take the challenge by putting good systems in place as equatorial Guinea did with less than 2 months, l am not surprised that Morocco did this, years ago Morocco applied to be part of European union ,so l think the Morocco was just trying to use this to destroy African football or disgrace it . if l had the opportunity to be a member of the caf disciplinary committee l would even suggest to ban Morocco for more than 8 years, rather than 4 years. thanks to equatorial Guinea for hosting the tournament, if the tournament had not go ahead , did Morocco know how this was going to damage caf ? And now Morocco is appealing to trying to uphold the decision of caf. I will say god should forgive you.
