Morgan rues missed chances

Published on: 07 January 2019

Wes Morgan insisted after Leicester City had been knocked out of the FA Cup by Newport County that the Foxes should have won the game.

The League Two side, who beat Leeds United in the third round of last season's competition and were only beaten by Spurs after a replay in the next round, beat Claude Puel's side 2-1 at Rodney Parade.

Jamille Matt gave the Exiles a first-half lead and, although Rachid Ghezzal equalised with only eight minutes left, Padraig Amond scored a late penalty for the home team after Marc Albrighton had handled the ball.

"It was a difficult day," Leicester captain Morgan said afterwards. "The magic of the FA Cup happened, definitely.

"I thought we played well, especially in the second half. We had loads of half-chances in very good positions where we should have scored.

"On another day they all go in, but it just didn't happen for us. I don't want to take the shine away from Newport, it's a big day for them. I wouldn't say they deserved it, but they battled to the end. Good luck to them."

Leicester face Southampton at the King Power Stadium in their next Premier League match on Saturday.

The Foxes can be backed at 19/20 to beat Southampton, 5/1 to be relegated this season, while they are 6/4 to keep a clean sheet in the encounter.
