Manager Jim Curtin of the Philadelphia Union bemoaned the "little things" that cost his team in the first leg of their Concacaf Champions League semi-final against Club America.
The Union was defeated 2-0 at the Azteca Stadium on Thursday night, but it was only Emanuel Aguilera's 80th-minute penalty that seemed to put the MLS side in trouble.
After scoring in the 17th minute, Paraguayan player Richard Sanchez was deemed to have been fouled in the area by Jose Martinez, but only after a long VAR review, after referee Walter Lopez first waved play on.
Curtin questioned if there was a "clear and obvious" cause for VAR to overrule Lopez's original judgment after the match. Aguilera, of course, made no mistake with the spot-kick. The fact that the Union were denied a penalty late in the game when Cory Burke was clattered in the box only added to Curtin's anger.
