Former Milan, Barcelona and Italy defender Gianluca Zambrotta believes Milan have made greater progress than any other team compared with last season.
Zambrotta welcomed the changes at the Rossoneri and identified the Italian club as the side that has improved most since the previous campaign. His assessment comes after Milan opened the new Serie A season with two victories.
Milan began their campaign by beating Torino before following that result with another win against Venezia. The two successes have given the club a perfect start to the championship and provided the early context for Zambrotta’s positive view of their development.
“Milan are the team that have improved most compared with last year,” Zambrotta said, according to the original assessment.
The former Italy international has a strong connection with the club, having previously played for Milan during a career that also included spells with Barcelona and the Italy national team. His comments therefore offer praise for the progress he believes has taken place within the Rossoneri squad in comparison with last season.
The opening results are the only competitive matches cited in the assessment, with Milan having secured six points from their first two fixtures. Torino were the first opponents to be defeated, while Venezia were beaten in the second match of the campaign.
The victories have marked a positive beginning to the current Italian championship for Milan. Zambrotta’s conclusion is based on the contrast between the club’s position at the start of this season and its level during the previous year, with the former defender describing the improvement as the most significant among the teams under consideration.
Milan’s latest league title came in 2022. That remains the last occasion on which the club became champions of Italy, a fact that provides the wider background to their current campaign.
For now, the team’s progress is reflected in its results: two matches played and two wins recorded. Zambrotta’s comments underline the scale of the change he believes has taken place, while the victories over Torino and Venezia have given Milan an ideal platform at the beginning of the season.
The former Milan, Barcelona and Italy player’s assessment is consequently centred on one clear message: the Rossoneri have made the biggest improvement compared with last year. Their perfect opening has reinforced that view, although the only results referred to so far are those first two victories.
