Former Super Eagles captain and former Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi has lashed out at Nicolas Jackson following his abysmal performance against Manchester City in the EPL opener at Stamford Bridge, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Senegalese forward who was withdrawn in the second half of the encounter missed clear cut chances as his side fell to a 0-2 defeat in front of their home fans.
Working as an analyst for beIN Sports, Mikel did not hold back in his review of Jackson's performance and suggested the club may need to dip into the transfer market once more.
"You need to have a striker who knows how to hit a ball in the back of the net and that's what we don't have," Mikel told beIN Sports.
"I know I talk so much about him and sometimes I sound like I disrespect him, but I don't disrespect him".
Jackson, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal last summer for £32 million, showcased his goal-scoring ability with 14 goals in his first Premier League campaign. However, his tally could have been substantially higher, as he missed a league-high 24 big chances.
The striker also faced criticism for his disciplinary issues, accumulating more yellow cards than goals during his early days at Chelsea.
