M’Baye Niang has begun a new chapter of his career after joining USL Dunkerque, signing a one-season contract with the option of a further year.
The Senegalese forward said he chose the French club because its project offered him the opportunity to flourish while also allowing him to use his experience to support his new team-mates.
Despite having other options available on the transfer market, Niang took time to consider which environment would provide the sporting challenge and fresh prospects he was seeking. The former Senegal international discussed his decision in an interview with L’Equipe.
A role beyond the pitch
Niang’s move to Dunkerque is not based solely on the sporting challenge. Having started his professional career at a young age, the striker also wants to contribute to the development of the club’s younger players by sharing the lessons he has learned throughout his career.
His arrival gives Dunkerque a player with experience of several European leagues, as well as international football with Senegal. The club will expect him to contribute to its ambitions while bringing his knowledge and experience to the dressing room.
Niang’s ability to support younger team-mates could become an important part of his role at the club. His career has given him experience in different football environments, which he now hopes to put at the disposal of his new side.
His market value is currently estimated at 800,000 euros by Transfermarkt. Contracted to Dunkerque for one season, with the possibility of extending that agreement for another year, Niang has the chance to revive his career in surroundings where he hopes to rediscover his enjoyment of football and make a significant contribution.
