Two first half goals and a late goal in the second half were enough to secure the Otumfour Cup for Obuasi AshantiGold at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Tijani Joshua's goal in the 15th minute was followed by Shafiwu Mumuni's drive five minutes later to put the miners in a poll position to win the Otumfour Cup.
The miners displayed a magnificent performance in the first half to see their opponents chasing their shadows in the game when Emmanuel Osei Baffour connected intelligently with Tijani Joshua on the left to register the first goal for the visitors on the quarter hour mark.
Shafiwu Mumuni added the second five minutes later with a well orchestrated pass reminiscent of Mohammed Polo from Eric Opoku to make it two for the Aboakese lads.
Asante Kotoko fought tiressly to cancel the deficit in the 34th minute but Fatau Dauda stood between the goal post to deny Obed Owusu the chance to pull one back.
The second half of the game started with Asante Kotoko electrifying the Baba Yara Sports Stadium with a better performance compelling the Obuasi lads to coil into their shells.
The Porcupine Warriors kept pressing but the miners were resolute in defense with Nafiu Awudu and Kadri Mohammed pulling the breaks on Obed Osusu and Richard Oti.
The Oseikrom boys kept the momentum until veteran Stephen Oduro and Halipha Sodogo were introduced into the game.
The Obuasi based side made two quick changes to neutralise the effect of Stephen Oduro by bringing on Anthony Yamful and Richard Gyamfi.
The Fabulous lads picked the advantage and kept on the pressure until Obed Owusu finally kissed the net with a fantastic drive from 25 yard to reduce the tally with six minutes to end proceedings.
AshantiGold showed glimpses of tiredness which gave the upper hand to the Porcupine Warriors as their determination in the second half was paying off until goalkeeper Joseph Addo surrendered the game to yellow and blacks.
Eric Opoku capitalised on a blunder from the Kotoko goalie to make 3-1 in favour of the miners with three minutes to end the game.
The Porcupine Warriors fought on but their efforts could only be an embarrassment to their teaming fans who trooped to the Baba Yara Stadium to cheer them on.
The 2014/15 league winners AshantiGold have since added another trophy to their gallery after putting the Porcupine Warriors to the test.
