Lazio’s head coach Marco Baroni clarified why Dele Bashiru was abruptly substituted at halftime in yesterday’s home defeat against Fiorentina, as reported by Nigeriasoccernet.com.
The host already trailed by two goals in the first half after some errors allowed the visitors to get ahead, Baroni's side did try to fight back but they were only able to get a consolation goal in the matchday 22 encounter.
Speaking to DAZN in his post-match press conference, the gaffer bemoaned the team's error that was capitalized on by Fiorentina while also explaining the need to pull out the Nigerian midfielder.
"Dele-Bashiru? The match was difficult, he needed space, more speed in his maneuvers was needed, he did well in the first half, it wasn't an ideal match for a player who needed space and there wasn't any space".
"It's not a midfield problem or choosing Dele-Bashiru who is growing and giving us a lot. The whole team was slow in the maneuver and we can't play slow football. We have to improve, raise the level", he added.
