Mane: Reds won't choke

Published on: 16 January 2019

Sadio Mane claims the current Liverpool team are not "chokers" and he is confident that they will win the Premier League title this season.

The Merseysiders have never won the Premier League, while their last championship success was back in 1990.

However, they currently sit four points clear of reigning champions Manchester City at the top of the table with 16 matches remaining this season.

This is not a team of chokers. I am sure we will win the league.

Jurgen Klopp's men have only lost once in their opening 22 games and look stronger than in 2013-14 when then boss Brendan Rodgers' side lost to Chelsea and drew at Crystal Palace late in the campaign as they blew a solid lead at the top to end up two points behind champions City.

But Mane is adamant that history will not repeat itself this season as the Reds look to end the supporters' long wait to celebrate a league title.

The 26-year-old Senegal international forward said: "It is not easy to hear people accuse the team of being chokers but we have to ignore it and focus on what is in front of us.

"Liverpool had the chance to win it a few years ago and did not do it but I prefer to think it helped to bring us where we are now.

"This is not a team of chokers. I am sure we will win the league."

Liverpool are 8/11 to win the Premier League this season, while Manchester City are priced at 6/5 to again pip them to the trophy.
