Michael Carrick says Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko remains a young player who is continuing to develop, despite failing to score in the club’s opening two Premier League matches of the season.
United have taken three points from their first two league games and currently sit 10th in the table. Sesko has yet to find the net during that start, but Carrick offered a measured assessment of the forward’s progress.
“He is still young and continues to develop,” Carrick said of Sesko.
The comments provide the clearest indication so far of Carrick’s view of the striker’s early season form. Rather than focusing solely on his lack of goals, the Manchester United manager highlighted Sesko’s age and ongoing development.
Sesko’s involvement has come during a start to the Premier League campaign in which United have collected three points from a possible six. That record has left the club in 10th place in the early table, while the striker remains without a goal after two matches.
For a forward, the absence of a goal is an immediately visible statistic, but Carrick’s remarks suggest he believes Sesko’s progress should be considered over a longer period. His description of the player as still young points to an expectation that the striker will continue to improve as the season develops.
The Manchester United manager’s comments also place Sesko’s opening matches within the wider context of the team’s start. The club has not yet established a consistent position near the top of the table, with three points leaving them 10th after two games.
Sesko therefore remains without a scoring contribution as United assess their early form in the Premier League. Carrick, however, has stressed that the forward is still developing and that his current position should not be viewed as a finished assessment of his ability.
The striker will now look to turn that continued development into goals as Manchester United’s season progresses. For now, Carrick’s message is one of patience, with Sesko’s age and potential development placed ahead of a judgment based only on his goalless start.
United’s opening two fixtures have produced three points, 10th place in the Premier League and no goals for Sesko. Carrick’s assessment is that the forward remains a young player with further development ahead of him.
