Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville says a Premier League title triumph for Manchester City, while the club is contesting alleged financial-rule breaches, would trigger a major reaction.
“If they lift the Premier League trophy above their heads in May, the real chaos will begin,” Neville said.
Manchester City have been found guilty on all charges relating to serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations over a nine-year period. The club denies any wrongdoing and has lodged an appeal against the findings.
City return to action on Sunday, 11 October, when they travel to face Liverpool. They currently lead the Premier League table after winning all 5 of their matches.
