Man United dismisses Napoli’s N46B tag for Osimhen

Premier League giants Manchester United have considered Napoli’s 100 million euros (46 billion naira) price-tag for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen as ‘crazy’ and will not pay such an amount.

According to ESPN, Osimhen, who has 10 goals with three assists in 14 games so far this season, was mentioned as a possible Manchester United target to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, who terminated his contract by mutual consent last weekend.

However, they would also not be ready to pay what they consider to be a ‘crazy’ €100m price-tag.

Considering Napoli paid 75 million euros (35 billion naira) plus bonuses to purchase Osimhen from LOSC in September 2020 and his profile has only risen spectacularly since then, €100m would seem the very minimum they could command.

His contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona runs to June 2025 and there is no release clause.

It has been reported that Napoli already rejected a €100m offer from Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, the former Lille hitman has, for the second consecutive month, missed out on winning the Serie A player of the month award, coming in second to Juventus forward Moise Keane.

It was a similar story for Osimhen in October when the Napoli forward lost out to AC Milan ace Rafael Leao for the league’s best player honour.

Osimhen’s chances, however, appeared brighter in November after scoring two goals and adding an assist in three matches for Napoli.

More importantly, the 23-year-old’s contributions – a goal and assist in the 2-1 win at Atalanta and another strike in the 3-2 triumph over Udinese – had helped Napoli romp to victory in the three league matches played in November.

Despite Osimhen’s brilliance, though, Moise Keane has been preferred to the Nigerian forward as the Frenchman registered three goals in two appearances in the month.

The 22-year-old scored the only goal of the game in Verona against Hellas and a brace in the 3-0 success at the Allianz Stadium against Lazio, helping the Bianconeri to extend their winning streak to six victories in a row.

Osimhen, however, remains the most prolific striker in the Italian Serie A. The former Lille lad has scored nine goals in 11 league appearances for the Partenopei before the World Cup break.
