His contract with Man United runs until June 2027, with the club having a one-year extension option on the deal. Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in charge on an interim basis until Amorim assumes his responsibilities.

Amorim has been in charge at Sporting since 2020. He won the Portuguese title in 2021 and 2024 despite fierce competition from FC Porto and Benfica.

His first game in charge of United will come against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Nov. 24.

United host Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday in Van Nistelrooy's first league game at the helm.
