Lovenkrands issues Rangers warning

Peter Lovenkrands has warned former club Rangers not to underestimate Midtjylland on Thursday.

The Gers have barely been troubled in the opening two rounds of the Europa League, cruising past St Joseph's and Progres Niederkorn without conceding. However, they are likely to face a sterner test against the Ulvene.

Midtjylland finished second in the Danish Superliga last season and have made a perfect start the new campaign, winning four out of four.

It's the same philosophy going through the club that there's been for a long time.

Kenneth Andersen's side now take their first steps into Europe and have become a familiar name to fans around the continent in recent years.

Defeat to Malmo in last season's play-offs marked the first time since 2014-15 they have missed out on the group stages of the Europa League.

Rangers, 9/4 to win the Scottish Premiership, made the groups last term and Steven Gerrard will be desperate to ensure his side emulate their achievements from the 2018-19 campaign.

Lovenkrands says it is vital the Glasgow outfit do not underestimate Thursday's opponents either at the MCH Arena or Ibrox.

"A lot of people are probably looking at it and going 'ah but it's only a Danish team' and this and that," Lovenkrands said. "But this is a team that's not been finishing in the top just once or twice.

"It's been consistently doing so in the last Danish league for the last five to six years and won the league two years ago against Copenhagen, who have been a dominant side.

"They always build strongly. They lost their manager last year but the assistant coach took over and it's the same philosophy going through the club that there's been for a long time."

Rangers are 13/8 to win in Denmark, with a first-leg draw 11/5 and Midtjylland 31/20.
