Ademola Lookman emphasized the significance of enhancing the Super Eagles' performance following their runner-up finish in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, as they gear up for friendlies against Ghana and Mali, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Nigerian squad, who clinched second place after a 2-1 defeat to hosts Cote d’Ivoire, reconvenes for the first time since the tournament to prepare for double-header matches against the Black Stars and Eagles.
Lookman, representing Serie A side Atalanta, stressed the necessity for the team to elevate their game.
“It’s an opportunity for us to once again show the level we are as a team, talking about our performance at the AFCON and the level that is expected of us. We are definitely looking forward to the game," he expressed to Super Eagles media following Wednesday's training session in Marrakech.
Delighted to reunite with his teammates post-AFCON, the 26-year-old winger stated, "We still have the same bunch of players, still happy together and obviously there are some new faces in the squad. We are really happy to be back in the squad."
The Super Eagles will kick off their friendly encounters against Ghana on Friday, followed by a clash with Mali next Tuesday, both matches slated at the Grande Stade de Marrakech, Morocco.
