Liverpool have withdrawn their offer for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh after a week of intense negotiations, bringing an end to their attempts to sign the Gambia international, according to Footy-Africa.
The 22-year-old had emerged as one of Liverpool’s leading targets late in the transfer window. The club’s hierarchy had submitted an improved proposal to Minteh’s representatives in an effort to resolve the impasse with Brighton.
However, Liverpool have now decided not to continue with the deal. The player’s recent injury has prompted additional caution from the club, which is rebuilding its squad and concluded that completing the transfer would carry too much risk.
Brighton had already rejected two successive offers from Liverpool, worth 60m euros and 70m euros respectively. Despite Liverpool’s willingness to improve their proposal, the negotiations did not reach a successful conclusion.
Minteh will instead focus on recovering from his injury at Brighton, where he remains under contract until 2029. The forward, who was born in Serekunda, is valued at 45m euros and earns an annual salary of 2,467,296 euros in England, equivalent to 1,603,742,400 FCFA.
The decision ends a transfer story which had developed quickly during the final stages of the window. Minteh’s status as a priority target had led Liverpool to make a renewed approach, but concerns over his fitness ultimately influenced the club’s decision to step away.
