Liverpool welcome Chelsea to Anfield on Wednesday, 28 October 2026 for an EFL Cup last-16 tie between two Premier League title contenders.
Kick-off is scheduled for 20:00 GMT. The match will be played at Anfield in Liverpool.
The game will be shown on beIN Sports in France; Play Sports 1 and Play Sports in Belgium; Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Ultra HD in the United Kingdom and Ireland; Sky Sport Premier League, Sky Go and WOW in Germany and Austria; DAZN in Spain and Italy; SuperSport and beIN Sports in sub-Saharan Africa; and beIN Sports across the Maghreb and Middle East.
The clubs have met 87 times since 1995, with Chelsea holding a narrow advantage. The London side have recorded 32 wins, compared with 28 for Liverpool, while 27 matches have ended in draws.
Chelsea have also scored slightly more goals in those fixtures, finding the net 108 times to Liverpool’s 103.
Their most recent meetings have been closely contested. Liverpool and Chelsea drew 1-1 in the Premier League on 9 May 2026, while Chelsea won 2-1 at home on 4 October 2025 and 3-1 on 4 May 2025.
Liverpool won the previous meeting at Anfield, beating Chelsea 2-1 on 20 October 2024. They also defeated Chelsea 1-0 after extra time in the EFL Cup final on 25 February 2024.
Liverpool enter the tie in generally positive form and are currently positioned near the top of the Premier League table. Their progress was checked by a 3-0 defeat by Manchester City, but they responded with important league victories over Brentford and Brighton.
They have also won their recent Champions League matches against LASK and Villarreal. The Reds will now look to carry that momentum into their domestic cup campaign.
Chelsea’s form has been less consistent in the league, affecting their position in the table. They have produced impressive performances, including a 5-1 win against Bournemouth and a disciplined 2-0 victory away to Everton.
However, the Blues suffered a frustrating 2-0 home defeat by Tottenham in their latest outing, a result that again highlighted their problems with consistency.
Liverpool’s home advantage gives them a slight psychological edge, while Chelsea are expected to be weakened by notable suspensions. Even so, meetings between the sides have frequently been decided by fine margins, meaning extra time cannot be ruled out.
Africafoot’s prediction is a 2-0 Liverpool victory.
The published betting odds list Liverpool at 2.40 to win, with a draw priced at 3.80 and Chelsea at 2.50.
