Liverpool are continuing to assess midfield options, with AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara currently appearing to rank ahead of AS Roma’s Manu Kone in the club’s recruitment plans.
David Lynch, speaking on the Media Matters podcast, said the Senegal international was better placed in Liverpool’s thinking than Kone. However, the English club continues to monitor the French-Ivorian midfielder as it considers how to strengthen its squad.
Liverpool were unable to sign Camara during the most recent summer transfer window, but their interest in the AS Monaco player has not diminished. The Reds could therefore make another approach in a future window.
Camara has emerged as the preferred option
Camara’s position in Liverpool’s hierarchy does not mean Kone has been ruled out. The AS Roma midfielder remains under consideration because of his qualities in the centre of the pitch and his potential to add strength to the club’s midfield.
Lynch believes a move for Kone in January 2027 is unlikely, with the summer transfer window providing a more realistic opportunity for any possible deal. Liverpool will need to establish which targets take priority and determine whether the financial terms of a transfer are viable before making an offer.
Kone is contracted to AS Roma until 30 June 2029 and is valued at 60 million euros. Camara’s agreement with AS Monaco also runs until 30 June 2029, while the Senegal international is assessed at 55 million euros.
Camara earns 1,380,000 euros (897,000,000 FCFA) per year in France.
The two midfielders remain part of Liverpool’s wider recruitment consideration, although Camara’s existing relationship with AS Monaco and the club’s previous failure to secure his signature mean any future attempt would require further negotiation.

AS Roma will soon play Udinese in the 10th matchday of the Italian championship.
