Liverpool beat Southampton to take step closer to Premier League title

Liverpool need just seven more wins to claim the Premier League after beating Southampton 4-0 at Anfield.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored his second goal in a week shortly after half-time before Jordan Henderson doubled the lead for Jurgen Klopp's side on the hour mark with his second goal in his last three appearances.

The first two goals were assisted by Roberto Firmino, before Henderson turned provider to set up Mohamed Salah to put the gloss on a win that makes their status as champions elect look even more assured.

Firmino then made it a hat trick of assists by setting up Salah for his second and Liverpool's fourth of the afternoon shortly before full-time.

Second-placed Manchester City travel to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, and a defeat for Pep Guardiola's defending champions in London would leave them 22 points behind with just 39 left available.
